We only include companies we personally like or those whose inclusion we feel will be useful. To make planning your visit as easy as possible, here's a map, and street view of EIS Sheffield.

Retail chains: cafes and restaurants

If you are planning to go for a meal after your event, Valley Centertainment has a range of chain restaurants. To walk there from EIS Sheffield/iceSheffield/Motorpoint Arena Sheffield, go to the bottom of the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield car park and cross the Broughton Lane traffic lights. Alternatively, Valley Centertainment has its own tram stop, the next stop on from the Arena/Don Valley Stadium stop towards Meadowhall. If you are driving, Valley Centertainment has plenty of parking, though it can get busy.

For us, the standout restaurant is the ever expanding chain handmade burger Co. While the Valley Centertainment branch (and nearby Meadowhall) does not match the vibrancy of the original branch in Birmingham's Brindleyplace, the quality of produce (and almost trendy wallpaper) has been firmly retained. The peri-peri chips, though, are a disappointing waste of taste buds and wallet.

If you want to access the Valley Centertainment tram stop after your meal, it's not always clearly signposted, so walk in between Cineworld and Hollywood Bowl.

Meadowhall Centre, a short drive or a couple of tram stops away, has a wide range of familiar food options.

Sport

If you are staying for a few days and want to keep fit, there are a couple of pay as you go options:

Fitness classes at EIS Sheffield
Ice skating at iceSheffield

Walking
An alternative way for you to reach EIS Sheffield, iceSheffield and Motorpoint Arena Sheffield from Sheffield city centre is via the pleasant Five Weirs Walk, along the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal. It should take you around 45 minutes. There's no signpost, so look out for a black and white tram bridge over the canal followed by a yellow and green bridge over the tram tracks.

The Sheffield & Tinsley Canal also passes near the Sheffield Hallam University City Athletics Stadium. After about 30 minutes, you will see the sign 'Supertram Bridge 7A', turn back and in a few seconds you will see some steps. At the top of the steps, turn left, you will see traffic lights and the stadium is on the other side of the road

The Met Office has a useful five day guide.

Parks/open spaces

Don Valley Bowl is a large grassed open area next to the Arena/Don Valley Stadium tram stop. It has a sitting area at the top with benches.

If you want somewhere more secluded, there are benches and pleasant greenery close by. From the tram stop, head towards Don Valley Bowl and take the second path on your left. If you are coming from the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, when you see the sign that says 'Supertram' on the right, follow the path on the left.

Real ale

With the workers and large steelworks mostly gone, the area is lacking in pubs of all types. However, if you do want a drop of real ale, Arena Square has a couple of choices.

If you are visiting in March, you might want to check the annual BeerX festival which is held at iceSheffield.

Views

To discover a hidden gem, walk to the top of Don Valley Bowl (next to Arena/Don Valley tram stop). By the benches, you will see an old furnace, go inside and climb to the top of the spiral staircase to access the viewing platform.

Walks

The Rambler's have produced this 1.8 mile walk.

The Five Weirs Walk along the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal offers a pleasant break.
